Council Compliance
Southland District Council (SDC) covenants typically require the following maintenance obligations:
Property owners are responsible for maintaining their private sections and adjoining berm to a "neat and tidy" standard at all times, preventing them from becoming unsightly, with grass height kept below 150mm. SDC guidelines also require that vegetation must not create an unacceptable fire hazard. If a lot is not kept tidy (particularly before a house is built), the developer or council may take action, and the cost of maintenance can be charged to the owner.
